Milking liners

Greenoak offers a range of milking liners for cows, goats and sheep to match most milking machines at an economic price and guaranteed quality.

The liner consists of a head, a barrel and a short integrated milk tube (see Figure 1).

Milking linersThe liner is the only part of the milking machine which is in direct contact with living tissue of the animal. Design of the liner therefore is highly important for optimal milking and teat health. Experimental studies show that the liner design usually affects milking characteristics more than any other machine factor.

The liner design can influence factors such as strip yield, liner slip, milking time, teat treatment and udder health. Liners must provide an airtight joint at both ends of the shell, provide a mouthpiece and barrel which will fit on the teat to minimize liner slips and cluster fall off. It must milk fast, as complete as possible, and reduce teat congestion and injury. Liner material sanitary and hygienic properties play a great role in the cow teat cross-contamination prevention.

Greenoak offers wide range of different design milking liners to meet needs of all our customers both in the UK and abroad. It is extremely important to select a correct type which is suitable for cows in a herd.

The modern milking liners have reduced carbon black and as such is designed to operate efficiently for about 2500 milkings. A typical liner open and closes approximately 3600 times per hour, and, towards the end of its working life, can degrade due to mechanical stress, resulting in the following possibilities:

  • -Absorb more milk fat, contributing to bacteria in the milk
-Increase in time to milk out each animal, and leaving some milk in the udder
-Increase chance of liner slippage and teat damage
    -Increase chance of mastitis developing

Even if 2500 milkings are not reached, the rubber material will degrade with age and should be replaced after 6 months.

Liners cost is significant to the profitability of milk production, and because Greenoak manufactures liners in high volume we can offer these at low costs. There is an equivalent Greenoak liner for most other manufacturer, without the unnecessary high cost.

It is false economy to extend the use of the liners, and better to change them at the end of its working life.

You can use simple example below to estimate how often you should change your milking liners.
Number of cows=200, Number of milking units=20, Number of milkings per day=2
Liner life = 2500 / ( 200 / 20 * 2 ) = 125 days (approx 4 months)

BUY WITH CONFIDENCE
ALL Greenoak milking liners are guaranteed to perform 2500 individual milkings or 6 months which ever occurs first. Any liners that fail to meet this performance criteria will be replaced under warranty.
